James Marsden buys Austin home and gushes over ‘small-town feel’
Actor James Marsden, who is known for his role as Cyclops in the “X-Men” movie franchise, in May paid an amount likely around $1.8 million for a five-bedroom, 5,160-square-foot house in the Commons Ford area of Austin.
In December 2020, Marsden, 48, told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, the hosts of “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” that he had moved to Austin several months earlier, and added that he was renting a home at the time.
“I love it,” he told the show’s hosts, referring to Austin. “I’ve been coming here for 20 years. I have some friends here. I grew up in Oklahoma, all my family’s still there.”
Of Austin, Marsden said, “it’s still got that small-town feel to it but it’s definitely booming at the moment.”
Marsden told the hosts that he had secured some land in Austin and had planned to build on that property. However, records show that Marsden now has bought an existing home in the Commons Ford area.
In Austin, the house that Marsden bought was built in 2007 and has 4-1/2 bathrooms, seven-inch ebony hardwood flooring throughout and a fireplace in the living room. Outside on the 1.07-acre property are mature trees, a guest casita with a full kitchen and a Murphy bed, an outdoor shower surrounded by bamboo and an IPE wood deck.
The exact amount that Marsden paid was not disclosed. However, public records show that Marsden took out a loan against the house for the principal amount of $1.84 million, suggesting that that amount was close to his purchase price.
The house had an estimated property tax bill in 2021 of $24,845. The home also is assessed $450 a month in homeowners association dues.
Marsden also has owned several houses over the years in Los Angeles.
