James Marsden reckons Russell Brand is a “brilliant” actor.

The Enchanted star has been singing Russell’s praises having just finished work on Hop, in which the British comedian and actor plays the Easter bunny.

“He’s brilliant, that word gets tossed around casually these days, but he really is a really brilliant comedian, very sharp, very smart and what he brings to a performance that’s not even on a page… he happens to be so gifted as an actor,” James said on the promo trail for Cats And Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore.

“I’d love to. Jason Bourne, James Bond, Transporter, any of those great spy thrillers,” he revealed at the Hollywood premiere of his new movie Cats And Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore.

ET is with Christina Applegate , James Marsden and Bette Midler , who are starring in the live-action/CGI family spy adventure! “The past couple of years I’ve wanted to do things that I can, in my repertoire, show to my goddaughter and my future children,” Christina explains of why she wanted to do the film. “I have two kids, so it’s like, ‘This’ll be a fun gig.’ You go and roll out of bed and you don’t need to worry about how you look, just lending your voice. It’s a fun family movie that I can take my kids to see,” James says of the project.

ComingSoon.net: Your character is one of the best parts of the film. Did you know you had the best role when you read the script?
James Marsden: When I read the script I thought selfishly this was the best character in the movie. That might come off as really bold or arrogant but to me this guy is involuntarily on an acid trip at a predominately black funeral. You’ve got to really work hard to screw that up. I was on the plane reading the script and I was laughing at what he had to endure and go through. The woman sitting next to me is going, “Stop laughing. Nothing is that funny. What are you laughing at?” I didn’t know that the British film had been made already so I was getting really excited that this was just an original idea and a great farce. Then I saw the British film – the original which was really well executed and Alan Tudyk who played my role in that film was perfect. So that was really my work that was cut out for me. How do you improve upon or just do your own thing when he knocked it out of the park.

CS: Did you stick to the script or did you improv at all?
