James Marsden’s not afraid of bold attire
James Marsden always includes at least one bold element in his outfits.
The American actor began his career in television shows such as Party of Five before becoming a bona fide Hollywood star in hits like as 2007’s Hairspray and the X-Men franchise.
James is also no stranger to the fashion world, having modelled for Italian fashion brand Versace in the past. Accordingly, he likes to keep an eye on trends and isn’t afraid to branch out into new styles, as long as his look remains cohesive.
“Keep it strong and simple,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “Less is more. But you have to have one good, bold element.”
The 42-year-old typically sticks to classic suit styles for red carpet appearances, but prefers more relaxed denim and shirt combos when he’s off-duty.
He attended Todd Snyder’s spring 2017 menswear collection presentation on Thursday (14 Jul 16) and was inspired by the bright outfits shown. The designer, whom James first met at the 2014 CFDA Awards, presented a Monaco Grand Prix-inspired collection that offered driving jackets in eye-catching greens and blues, striped shorts and tailored tracksuits. James, who sat front-row alongside Kellan Lutz, Girls star Andrew Rannells, Sebastian Stan and model Johannes Huebl at the show, added that he was excited to see interesting silhouettes for men.
“I’m 42, so things just keep getting funkier and funkier. I’m actually looking for little traces of classic simplicity. And also, it’s just fun to see what people might be doing,” he smiled.
But James admits he does lean on his long-time stylist Ilaria Urbinati for fashion advice. He says the style guru, who also works with Tom Hiddleston and Ryan Reynolds, tends to have a strong sense of what type of ensembles he should wear to star-studded events.
“Here’s how it works: She dictates what I wear, and I nod my head and say ‘OK,'” he teased.
